Flat Roof Recover in Crowborough
Failing flat roof stripped and recovered watertight
The Brief
A property in Crowborough had a flat roof that had been patched repeatedly over the years. Each repair bought a little time, but the covering had reached the end of its life and water was getting in again. The owners wanted the roof stripped back and recovered properly, with the underlying problems put right so they were not calling someone out for the same leak every winter.
What We Did
Our work included:
- Stripped the failed covering: Removed the old, patched covering back to the deck and cleared it away so we could inspect the structure underneath.
- Replaced the soft decking: Checked the decking across the whole roof and replaced the boards that had gone soft where water had been getting in, because a new covering only lasts if the deck beneath it is sound.
- Corrected the falls: Adjusted the falls so water is carried to the outlets and off the roof instead of ponding on the surface, which is a common cause of flat roofs failing early.
- Laid a new watertight system: Installed a new watertight covering across the deck, fully bonded and finished to keep the weather out for the long term.
- Formed the edges and outlets properly: Detailed the upstands, edge trims and outlets so water is guided cleanly off the roof and away from the building, sealing the weak points that usually fail first.
- Left the site clean and tidy: Cleared all the old materials away and left the property clean when we finished.
The Result
A properly watertight flat roof that no longer relies on patch repairs, with sound decking, corrected falls and neatly formed edges and outlets. The owners have a roof that drains as it should and a covering built to last, backed by our workmanship guarantee.
Job Duration: A short job completed over a couple of days, weather permitting.
