New Roof in East Grinstead

The Brief

A family home in East Grinstead had a pitched roof where the previous covering had reached the end of its life. Tiles were slipping, the underlay had perished and the homeowners were seeing the first signs of water finding its way in. They wanted the whole roof renewed properly rather than patched again, with a finish that matched the character of the property and would stand up to the local weather for years to come.

What We Did

Our work included:

• Stripped the old covering: Carefully removed the old tiles and perished underlay, and cleared everything away so we could see the full roof structure underneath.
• Checked and repaired the timbers and battens: Inspected the rafters and battens across the whole roof, and replaced anything that had rotted or worn so the roof was sound all the way through, not just on the surface.
• Fitted new breathable underlay: Laid a quality breathable underlay to keep the weather out while letting the roof space breathe, reducing the risk of condensation.
• Fitted new battens and tiles: Installed new treated battens and set out the new tiles evenly across the roof, chosen to suit the property and to match the surrounding homes.
• Matched ridges and leadwork: Bedded and finished the ridges and re-formed the leadwork so the junctions, valleys and abutments were properly weathered and sealed.
• Left the site clean and tidy: Cleared all the old materials and debris, checked the gutters were clear and left the property clean when we finished.

The Result

A clean, watertight pitched roof built to last, with new underlay, battens and tiles throughout and properly matched ridges and leadwork. The homeowners have a roof that is sound all the way through and a finish that suits the property, backed by our workmanship guarantee.

Job Duration: A matter of days from the first strip to the final tidy up, weather permitting.
